Well, I have been struggling lately, but decided to tackle a project for Gary's daughter Tracy.
It was her birthday today and I wanted to make use of some of Gary's tee shirts featuring the Harley Davidson pictures. This one was feminin enough for Tracy plus the bike on it is Blue like his new bike. I decided to make a pillow out of it so she could have it in some useful form rather than just sitting in a closet somewhere wondering why we can't throw it out. Now she doesn't have to but can if she gets sick of it.
The outside border looks better than this in person, but didn't come out quite so nice in the picture. I included a zipper so it can still be washed as well. She seemed to think it was more special than the gift certificate I gave her and I truly hope that was the case.
I kept some other shirts of Gary's and plan to make things with them that have some special memories attached. I will probably post them as they come up.
Thanks to all my art friends who are supporting me through this difficult time. I still can't talk about Gary very much. I miss him so much, but I know time will help and hopefully I'll be making more things soon. Maybe doing some decorating projects as well.
Thought I might share this so if anyone else has memories tied up in clothes of loved ones lost, they might try something along this line.
Happy creating.

  1. what a great idea Peggy! thanks for checking my blog. I hope you do join in some more swaps soon. I hope to be at the next LFBC meeting. I'm glad you are still keeping busy with art, and its definitely more meaningful to do what you are doing than to force out stuff for swaps just because.

  2. I thought this was a cool idea when you told me about it. Actually my dad thought it was too when I told him about it. I'm not great on a sewing machine so I envy those who are good at it. Thank you for you comment on my blog I actually thought about doing Cher, but I didn't love her when I was growing up. You should do it!! You still have time!

  3. I think this is such a great idea to repurpose a memory in a new way. And pillows offer both beauty and comfort - how perfect. I am sure that Tracy will never tire of it.
